File Prep & FAQ

Preparing Your Files for Print

A few minutes of file prep now avoids delays later. Here's what we look for on every job.

Accepted File Types

Export a high-resolution PDF for the best print quality, or a 300 dpi TIFF or JPG. Use high-quality images and include all fonts.

Bleed & Safe Zone

Extend background images and colors at least 1/8" (0.125") past the trim edge, and keep all text at least 3/16" inside the trim line. Add crop marks so we know where to cut.

Color Mode

Convert RGB images and spot colors to CMYK. For deep solid blacks, build a rich black of 60% cyan, 60% magenta, 60% yellow and 100% black.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can you turn around an order?

Many products, including business cards and postcards, can be printed same-day if your order and approved file are in before noon. Larger or custom jobs typically ship next-day or in a few business days.

Can you fix a low-resolution file?

We'll flag any file that looks like it will print blurry or pixelated before we run it, and let you know your options rather than printing something you'll be unhappy with.

Do you offer design help?

Yes — if you don't have a print-ready file yet, give us a call and we can help lay out a simple design or point you to what we need.

Do you ship outside San Diego?

Yes, we can print and ship anywhere in the U.S., including same-day shipping on eligible rush orders.
